Vote for Food in the Ontario 2025 Election!

Did you know that many policies impacting our community’s food security, are made at the Provincial level? Examples include:

  • Income policies impact household food insecurity in our communities. In Ontario, 70% of people on social assistance face food insecurity, because OW and ODSP rates are not enough for people to live on. Improving incomes provided by social assistance is an important example of an evidence-based policy to reduce household food insecurity.
  • Policies that impact land use planning and farmland protection. Once agricultural land is paved over, there is no going back. Land is needed to grow food; land use is a community food security issue.
  • Local Food Policy. Provincial policy can strengthen food processing and distribution infrastructure, access to financing, and support for small-scale abattoirs.
