Healthy Kids Community Challenge

The Healthy Kids Community Challenge is a community program to promote healthy behaviours for children aged 0-12 years. Peterborough is one of 45 communities in Ontario taking part, and will be benefiting from funding and support through to 2018. More information can be found at http://sustainablepeterborough.ca/projects/healthy-kids-community-challenge/

The latest theme for the Healthy Kids Community Challenge is Water does Wonders.  This Theme focuses on promoting water as the beverage of choice for kids and limiting sugar-sweetened beverages that include fruit juice, chocolate milk, sports drinks, soft drinks, etc. Sugar sweetened beverages are currently the single largest source of sugar in kids’ diets and contribute to excessive and unnecessary calories, dental decay and often replace more nutritious choices such as vegetables, fruit and milk.
